Scoliosis
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a curvature of the back from the vertebral column. The vertebral column is visible from behind in a S or C-form.
There are different kinds of scoliosis:
Non-structural scoliosis
The non-structural scoliosis is caused by a leg length difference or by a abnormal posture. This can be treated by leg length correction or posture therapy
Structural Scoliosis
A structural scoliosis can not be corrected. There is a position deviation.
Idiopathic Scoliosis
This is Scoliosis without a known cause. This is the case in 80% of the Scoliosis cases.
Congenital Scoliosis
This form of Scoliosis is innate. This is visible by birth. This is caused by vertebrae who grow into each other.
Degenerative Scoliosis
Two types:
Degenerative(wear): There is already a Scoliosis bend present which expands itself. This form is often seen by aging people. Because they suffer from extensive wear and tear of their joints.
The second type is Scoliosis which takes place in the lumbar region. This often takes place between your forties and fifties. This form of Scoliosis can result in fierce back pain with radiation to other parts of the body.
Neuromuscular Scoliosis:
As a result of reduced strength or paralysis of the muscles, Scoliosis can be formed.This can happen as a result of different muscle diseases.
Physiotherapy and Scoliosis:
As a result of Scoliosis, different complaints can take place. It is not possible to reduce scoliosis. however it is possible to treat the symptoms. This can be done with the right advice and exercises.
